Travel & Street Photography recap 8

Travel & Street Photography Recap 8

Writing these recaps around the end of each month is pure joy. They allow me to look back and realize somehow what I’ve accomplished. Last month, for instance, I wrote about how full my April 2019 was. So now, in the travel & street photography recap 8, I will share some more photos from one of my April journeys.

It’s the end of May, and I’m writing this post in Portugal, in a small village somewhere in Alentejo. The summer seems eternal here. Portugal is one of the most beautiful countries, with wonderful people and delicious food. It’s night, and I’m looking at the photos of last month’s journeys. After going through the content, I realized how many posts I wrote and how many images I shot. My hard drive is literally about to explode.

The travel & street photography recap 8 was initially about Palma de Mallorca. You see, the fascinating capital of the Balearic Islands had a great impact on me. After a very dark winter in Berlin, landing in Palma seemed like a blessing. I remember arriving in Palma wearing a thick jacket and a pullover. No need to tell you that when I landed at the airport of Palma, it was 25 C outside. Soon, I took off the jacket and, later on, the pullover. Finally, I arrived at my hotel room just wearing a t-shirt.

My days in Mallorca were slow. I would walk all day long, but I saved the nights for Rioja and tapas. I also managed to leave Palma for a day and travel on a historic train. The Tren de Sóller is an old wooden train executing a historical route. Finally, I ended up at Port de Sóller, a sophisticated seaside village that was the highlight of my journey to Mallorca. If you haven’t already watched my videos from Palma, check them out on my Youtube Channel.

A change of plans (No.1)

As I said earlier, the initial plan was to just share photos from Palma de Mallorca in the travel & street photography recap 8. After all, I have so much content from this journey that it would have been a pity to keep it in a hard drive. But May had some surprises for me; therefore, I’m going to include these extras here.

After spending a long weekend in Athens to see friends and family, I returned to Berlin. Being a Silver Member of Aegean Airlines means that I’m entitled to redeem two business class vouchers. That said, whenever I have a ticket with Aegean, I have two chances per year to upgrade. Flying Business Class is not a matter of status for me. Actually, I don’t care about such things. But I’m tall, and the truth is that I suffer on long flights. From Athens to Berlin, it’s an almost three-hour flight, so I didn’t think about it twice: I upgraded.

A business-class journey seemed like a luxury after a long year of intense solo traveling. And indeed it was! Hence, I considered writing an extensive review of my Business Class experience with Aegean. If you can afford to fly business class even once, you should try it. You won’t regret it.

A change of plans (No.2)

I thought I’d have an easy-going month in Berlin. After all these months of traveling, I have missed hanging out with my friends there. But then, one afternoon, my phone rang.

It turned out that I was invited to the opening of an art exhibition somewhere in Germany. I’m saying somewhere because I haven’t heard of the place before. The exhibition was taking place in Mettingen. This is a small city, half an hour away from Osnabrück. I, of course, accepted!

I spent five days in the region and had a fantastic time! The exhibition’s title was “Faith,” hosted by the Draiflessen Collection. It was a compact exhibition, and it exceeded my expectations. I must admit that I enjoyed it much more than the Emil Nolde exhibition in Berlin.

If you happen to be in the area, don’t miss the chance to visit it. It runs until the 18th of August.

What’s on the travel & street photography recap 8

Uhm, so is this a tree hat?

So, what’s on the travel & street photography recap 8?

First of all, Mallorca. Although I’m currently in Portugal, all my posts in May were about this beautiful island. For more information about Mallorca, you can also read my travel guide to Palma.

Then, you will see some photos of the “Faith” exhibition. And, of course, one more picture from the Business Class journey; I think there are enough photos in the Aegean Airlines review.

All the photos that you are about to see here are taken, as always, with the Ricoh GR ii. (More about this great camera here.)

Mallorca

Ah, Mallorca. My days there marked somehow the end of the winter. It was the beginning of April, and while it was still cold in Germany, it was already summer in Mallorca. Now and then, I think of the narrow streets of Palma, the clickety-clack of Tren de Sóller, and, of course, the impressive Cathedral. I would love to return there soon.

“Faith” Exhibition

Visiting an art exhibition way off Germany’s artistic center is an experience. You see, in Berlin, art is everywhere. But, driving through the fields on the way to the Draiflessen Collection and being surrounded by nature is the last thing you expect to see in a museum. The “Faith” exhibition is fascinating, though, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to attend its opening.

Aegean Airlines Business Class

The Aegean Airlines Business Class Review is extensive; therefore, I don’t want to bother you with more photos here. I’m just adding this one.

Bonus photo: Maiwoche in Osnabrück

On the days I was in Osnabrück, the locals celebrated the Maiwoche, which stands for May Week. More than half a million people attend this famous annual festival. Artists, performers, and, of course, alcohol create a festive atmosphere around the city. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time to write about the Maiwoche in Osnabrück, but I promise to post a photo diary soon.

As for the people wearing football shirts, this is because of the local team, VfL Osnabrück: it was the last game of the season, and they managed to ascend to the 2nd League. Well done!

And that’s it with this month’s recap.
