Description

Life through the lens: a photography ebook in pdf

Life through the lens is my first ebook dealing with photography. I can assure you that it wasn’t an easy task: I tried to include all the things I learned from my photography journey. In Life through the lens, I didn’t want to write just another guide to photography. Instead, I wanted it to be both a manual and a book of tips while also serving as inspiration for composing photos and finding locations. Moreover, I also wanted to reply to the questions that I received from my readers from time to time.

All that said, Life through the lens is not just a Photography 101. What I tried to achieve here was focusing on the things that matter the most in photography while concretely motivating you to build a photographer’s mindset. In the 60-pages of this ebook, you’ll also see thirty-five of my photos with their settings and their stories. Some of them are among my favorites, while in others, I explain why they don’t work for me. Last but not least, I’m also presenting my post-processing workflow.

Why photography matters

Life through the lens: the ebook’s cover

I know that photography is all about the occasional selfie or a quick snap for lots of people -and that’s okay. But the truth is that photography can be so much more. What separates an advanced photographer from an amateur one is his/her ability to compose strong images and present a body of work that can serve more than one purpose. Some people want to express themselves artistically, others want to document life -and others want to create photo-reports or do photojournalism. The possibilities of self-expression in photography are, literally, countless.

With the unprecedented access we have to cameras nowadays, it’s a pity not to make the most out of our equipment. Shooting beautiful photos is something that we might not appreciate straight ahead, but we will, for sure, be grateful for it in the long term. Returning to images from our past, to vacations twenty years ago, or to solo journeys that redefined our existence, all these are reasons to create presentable photos. I am convinced that we can produce “keepers,” i.e., pictures that we’ll be proud of taking with just a little effort.

As it’s always the case with every medium, the goal is to document our lives and times. Since we live in a highly visual era, people shooting photos are trying to understand their lives. Deep in its heart, Life through the lens is both an exercise in photography and a way to record (as Robert Frank put it) the humanity of the moment.

What to expect from the “Life through the lens” ebook

A small excerpt from the book

I’m sharing all the things I learned about photography after taking photos for several years in this ebook. Sometimes I get personal, and I share stories or how I built my mindset, while other times, it’s all about the settings, the tips, and the techniques I use. I covered a wide array of topics and sub-topics, like:

  • Why Photograph
  • How I decide what to photograph
  • How long does it take to compose a photo?
  • Camera or Smartphone?
  • Auto vs. Manual
  • The features to look for on your next camera
  • How to decide on the settings before taking a photo
  • The holy grail of photography
  • RAW vs. JPEG
  • How and why I use presets
  • The most important setting in a camera
  • How I take photos: my step by step guide
  • Location Scouting
  • My Workflow
  • How to use Noise Reduction effectively
  • How to optimize your images for web use
  • The mistakes I often make
  • How to do night photography
  • A note on long exposures and star trails
  • Why mastering one focal length is important

Last but not least, and as I already mentioned, I included 35 photos in the ebook. You will see their settings, and you can keep them in mind for the next time you’ll go out to take photos.

A few facts about the ebook

  • The ebook is 60-pages long.
  • As it’s always the case with my ebooks, I preferred a PDF file instead of an epub. The reason is that I don’t want you to download extra apps for reading it.
  • The ebook contains 35 photos with their settings.
  • I’ve been working on this ebook for approximately two months.
  • In Life through the lens, you’ll also find a few links to selected articles on my website. There is also an extra chapter with my Resources, where you can find info about my gear.
  • Life through the lens costs 12,50 euros. After purchasing it, you can download it immediately.
  • You can read the ebook on any device: desktop, laptop, tablet, smartphone. However, keep in mind that it’s better to use the landscape mode for reading it on your smartphone. While the portrait mode will work just fine, the truth is that you might have to zoom in sometimes. Reading should be a pleasant experience, though: go for the landscape mode.
  • Due to the nature of digital products, the ebook is non-refundable, and all sales are final.
