Travel & Street Photography Recap II: Belarus & Georgia

Travel & Street Photography Recap II

October 2018 was a busy month. I had to be in Berlin for a workshop, I had to work on the blog, and, of course, I had to travel. My return to Berlin was short, though: I stayed for only a week, and then I hit the road. The month was eventful, and I actually traveled a lot. Therefore, in the travel & street photography recap ii, you will see photos from October’s journeys. As you may have noticed in last month’s recap, the posts that deal with photography never have too much text. The focus of such articles is mainly photography.

So, my first stop was Minsk, the capital of Belarus. I have heard so many things about it: that it is dark, cold and unfriendly. But as you could read in my travel letter, A rocket man in Minsk, this was not the case. The weather was perfect, and the locals were polite. I enjoyed my stay in Minsk, and I can’t wait to return one day. I was also thrilled to see my article about Minsk being featured by the country’s biggest English speaking website, BelarusFeed.

After Minsk, I visited another Belarussian city: Brest. The city of Brest is one of the most legendary World War II cities. I wrote about the Heroes of Brest extensively, and I wanted to focus on its impressive fortress. It was a short stay, but the oddities of the city compensated me.

After returning to Berlin from Belarus, I traveled to Athens for two days. But it was a short stay. From there, I took a flight to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. I stayed for a couple of days in Tbilisi, where I felt the city’s stream of hope, and then I decided to travel a bit around this interesting country. On the first day of November (therefore, you will see more photos next month), I flew from Tbilisi to Yerevan.

So, I think it’s time to start with this month’s travel recap. I took all the photos that you’ll see here with the Ricoh GRii camera. Enjoy (and don’t forget to read more about the Ricoh).

Travel & Street Photography Recap II, October 2018

Minsk, Belarus

Minsk was the first city I visited in Belarus, and I was totally fascinated. It is lively, clean, and has cool inhabitants. Moreover, Minsk surprised me with its atmosphere and the delicious food.

Brest, Belarus

Brest is a truly interesting city. Its main attraction is, of course, the mesmerizing fortress. But I was also impressed by a museum: The Museum of Confiscated Art. Despite spending a few days in Brest, I found it to be a beautiful city.

Tbilisi, Georgia

Tbilisi is vintage and, at the same time, a vibrant city. The capital of Georgia has fantastic food and lots of things to see. But in Tbilisi, you’ll also observe the transition to a more modern (or westernized) society. Definitely, a place to observe and keep an eye on it in the years to come.

Chiatura, Katskhi Pillar, and…a bathroom.

I traveled a bit around Georgia, and I also stopped at Chiatura. It was a place that I daydreamed of visiting, and it didn’t let me down. Even though it resembles a modern-day dystopia due to several factors, Chiatura is a place full of history. Apart from Chiatura, I visited the Katskhi Pillar, where a monk lives alone for 25 years. Last but not least, I stopped in a small house in rural Georgia, where I’ve been invited for food and wine.
